>>> 9:56a "Praise Petey" (07/21/23) (Metacritic: 65, 50-80, #6)
Animated series about a NYC "It girle" who loses her job and heads south and takes over her late father's cult.
The first 2 episodes were back-to-back but the titles on TiVo have them mixed up compared to sources online.
~~ One review said it's "undeniably charming, with mile-a-minute jokes that land at least … mmm … 70 percent of the time."
I'm not sure what "land" means, because I don't think I laughed at all.
-- 11:12a "Run the Burbs" (08/07/23)
>>> 12:37p "Lawmen: Bass Reeves" (11/05/23)
This is on Paramount+, which I've already dropped, but the first 2 episodes were on CBS.
I was NOT attracted by the ads, but I decided to take a look, even though I won't be able to watch the whole season.
~~ This tells the tale of the first Black U.S. Marshall west of the Mississippi. It is the first of a planned anthology set to feature other iconic lawmen and outlaws through history,
~~ Some claim that "The Lone Ranger" was based on Reeves, although he was portrayed as a white man.
~~ His wife is Jennie.
~~ This moves slowly, is boring, and, although it's based on a real guy, it's impossible to know which parts are true.

>>> 6:15p "Shining Vale" (03/06/22) (Metacritic: 20, 33-(60-91), #16)
This Starz sitcom is free on Xfinity Stream this week so I thought I'd take a look.
A family moves into a house in the title town that seems to be haunted.
The problem is that only the wife has the visions.
~~ Harshest critic says, "All snark and no wit makes this miserable misfire of a horror comedy"
~~ I did chuckle twice.
~~ I thought I could watch additional episodes but it seems that the free "week" ended while I was watching the show!
>>> 7:26p "Based on a True Story" (06/08/23) on Peacock
A maried couple (a realtor and a former tennis star), and their plumber, seize a unique opportunity to capitalize on America's obsession with true crime.
~~ Jennifer Kim played a TV reporter.
-- 8:51p Movie: "Genie" (2023) on Peacock
Melissa McCarthy plays the title character.
It turns out that this genie has no limit on the number of wishes she can grant.
I discovered that this is a remake of "Bernard and the Genie" (1991) and the actor
who plays Bernard's boss in the new version played Bernard in the original!
