 Premieres

-- Magnum P.I.
  • Harshest critic says it has no heart.  Another said, "pilot episode is an uninspired slop of cornball action and opening misfires."
  • This is a reboot of the 1980s series, and I haven't been watching the other reboots.
  • The first 4 mins have a totally absurd action scene where a military vehicle shoots at a car (driven by Magnum) without hurting it, but when he shoots back with handgun, the military vehicle explodes.  But they might be implying that what we saw was how it was described in Robin's latest book -- it didn't quite happen that way.
  • I don't expect to keep watching.
-- Manifest
  • A plane takes off, encounters some turbulance on the way, but when they land, they are told it's 5.5 years later.  A young boy has a twin sister who wasn't on the plane.  He hasn't aged, but she has, and their grandmother, who wasn't on the plane has since died.
  • One critic says it wants to be "This Is Us" with a taste of "Lost".  Another said, "rote themes of redemption and faith dilute an otherwise intriguing supernatural occurrence."
  • So, what's more important, the mystery, or how the lives of the people have been affected.  And will it last long enough for us to get the answer to the mystery? That seems unlikely -- so, it's hard to know if it's worth sticking around.
  • After watching, it doesn't seem like the kind of mystery that will ever be solved -- because they're kind of implying that God is behind it.  Which implies, "Why now?"  But I think we are just supposed to ignore that question.
  • I expect to keep watching it.
